Clematis Westerplatte, 3LBearing large, single, deep red velvety flowers in early summer, Clematis Westerplatte is sometimes followed by a second flush of flowers in late summer. Mature blossoms have brighter red stamens, taking on a blue tinted edges later in the season. Raised by Brother Stefan Franczak of Poland, it was named in honour of the heroic stand by the Polish First Armoured Brigade stationed on the peninsular of Westerplatte in Gdansk Bay during WWII.
